Expanded NASA 50th Anniversary Display

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dozens of spectacular aircraft will fly through the Cleveland skies Labor Day weekend during the 2008 Cleveland National Air Show - and NASA will be there for the action. In celebration of the agency's 50th anniversary, NASA Glenn's presence at the air show will be bigger and better than ever. Meet astronauts, learn about the Space Program, see NASA aircraft and enjoy hands-on exhibits. For more information click here


Saab Touches Down

Saab, the car company that used to build jets will touch down at the 2008 Cleveland National Air Show.  Saab will showcase a selection of Saab vehicles and product information. So while you are at the Air Show, stop by the Saab display and see where driving a car doesn't feel like an act of necessity, but like you're flying through the clouds. MV-22 Osprey Added to Ground Attractions

Air Show fans will have a first hand look at the MV-22 Osprey from Marine Corps Air Station New River, N.C. The V-22 Osprey is a multi-engine, dual-piloted, self-deployable, medium lift, vertical takeoff and landing
(VTOL) tiltrotor aircraft designed for combat, combat support, combat service support and Special Operations missions worldwide. U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight Expanded

Air Show fans...get your cameras ready!!  For the first time in Cleveland the U.S. Air Force Heritage Fight will expand to 3 ships.  Each event day, the past will meet the present when the F-16 Fighting Falcon and the F-15 Eagle perform a commemorative Heritage Flight with a P-51 Mustang "Excalibur".

While on the ground, Air Show spectators can visit the U.S. Navy "Blue Angels" F/A-18 flight simulator, where they can experience the thrill of precision flight in a fighter jet. Other Navy attractions include the U.S. Navy rock band, "Horizon" playing Top-40 music, and the Navy Suburban Tour, featuring a 4-station video gaming system.

On Friday, August 29th and Saturday, August 30th, the City of Cleveland will host Party on the Pier at Voinovich Park. This free event takes place from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and includes music, family fun and food. Click here for a pintable flyer!

Ohio Celebrates NASA's 50th Anniversary

On Friday, August 29th, join Ohio's aerospace community for a black tie celebration of NASA's 50 years of inspiration, innovation and discovery. The event will pay tribute to Ohio 's astronauts, past and present, who have dedicated their lives to space exploration and celebrate the outstanding contributions of the NASA Glenn Research Center to the nation's aeronautics and space program and Ohio 's proud heritage as "first in aerospace." Corks in the Concourse

Join the International Women's Air & Space Museum for their third annual Corks in the Concourse pre-air show party on Friday, August 29, 2008 from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm. This year Corks in the Concourse features fine Ohio wines, hors d'oeuvres, a silent auction, and the chance to meet USAF Captain Jammie "Trix" Jamieson of the 525th Fighter Squadron, the first female F-22 Raptor pilot. Patriot Bowl Clash Set for Labor Day Weekend

On Saturday, August 30th the Kent State Golden Flashers will compete against the Boston College Eagles at Cleveland Browns Stadium in the second annual Patriot Bowl. Game time is schedued for 7:30pm and will mark the first ever meeting of the Eagles and the Golden Flashes. Surrounding the football game will be patriotic/civic events, including a free tailgate party on West 6th Street in downtown Cleveland, a high school band showcase, an entertaining halftime show and a salute to WWII veterans. AAA Race Car and simulators

Start your engines! AAA brings this year's Air Show visitors a taste of NASCAR thrills. They'll have an up-close look at David Ragan's AAA #6 Ford Fusion and a chance to have their photo made with it. Also, they can race the pros in Virtual GT Simulators. The flying excitement is not just in the air...there is so much to do on the ground too! Static Displays include military, historical and commercial planes along with helicopters, tanks and simulators. Go inside the planes, meet the pilots and explore aviation first hand. Are you Army Strong?

While on the Air Show grounds, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Virtual Army Experience (VAE) which provides participants with a virtual test drive of the United States Army. Participants employ teamwork, rules of engagement, leadership and high-tech equipment as they take part in a virtual U.S. Army mission. Tucker 2-ShiP...Father-Son Team

 

The Tucker 2-Ship performance will bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "like father, like son".

Air Show pilot and top civilian performer Sean D. Tucker will fly his Challenger II biplane with his son, Eric W. D. Tucker, in his Oracle Extra 300. This dynamic duo will entertain and delight Air Show fans of all ages.

The Ohio Air National Guard C-130 is hard to miss: stretching more than 130 feet across the runway and 100-plus feet long. Its strength is found in its versatile operations and impressive cargo space. The C-130 can transport everything from utility helicopters to six-wheel armored vehicles, as well as standard pallet cargo and military personnel.

U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight

Commemorative Fly-By Added

Each event day, the past will meet the present when the F-16 Fighting Falcon performs a commemorative Heritage Flight with a P-51 Mustang "Excalibur".

The USAF Heritage Flight program was established in 1997 to commemorate the Air Force's 50th anniversary. It involves today's state-of-the-art fighters flying in close formation with World War II, Korean and Vietnam era fighters. The flight's mission is to safely and proudly display the evolution of U.S. Air Force airpower and to support the Air Force's recruiting and retention efforts. The U.S. Navy's F/A-18F Super Hornet is an all-weather strike fighter aircraft that performs fighter escort, fleet air defense, force projection, interdiction, and close air support. An upgrade of the F/A-18C/D Hornet, the Super Hornet is 25 percent larger and offers longer range, greater endurance, increased weapon- and fuel-carrying ability along with improved survivability and the capacity for future growth.

Blue Angels Receive "Sword of Excellence" Award

At the recent International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) convention the U.S. Navy Blue Angels took home the coveted "Sword of Excellence" award. This is the first time in the history of this prestigious award that a military team won this top honor. For 61 years the Blues have represented the proud history of the United States Navy and Marines. Blue Angels to Fly-by super bowl

Rumor has it that the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be performing a fly-by during the 2008 Super Bowl. So keep your eyes peeled to the skies during the big game.

U.S. Navy Blue Angels to headline 2008 air show

Air Show will celebrate NASA's 50th Anniversary

LAS VEGAS (DEC. 12, 2007) Cleveland will host the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as headliners of the 2008 Cleveland National Air Show presented by Discount Drug Mart on Labor Day Weekend at Burke Lakefront Airport.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced yesterday that the Blue Angels will demonstrate the spectacular power and precision of their F/A-18 Hornet jets at the August 30, 31 and September 1 Cleveland event. The complete 2008 Blue Angels schedule was released at the annual International Council of Air Shows convention in Las Vegas , Nevada .

Cleveland 's 2008 edition of the annual aerial extravaganza will also recognize NASA's 50th Anniversary. "2008 will be a special year," said Air Show Executive Director Chuck Newcomb, "NASA has powered us into the 21 st century with technological innovations and scientific discoveries in Aeronautics, Exploration Systems, Science and Space Operations. The Air Show will celebrate NASA's past and promising future with unique exhibits and aircraft."<More...>

"Stadium" Temporary Flight Restrictions (tfr'S) and the air show

The Air Show will continue to operate concurrent with events that occur at Cleveland Brown's Stadium or Jacob's Field during the same time the Air Show is held. Occasionally the Air Show may have to make minor adjustments to the time civilian acts perform.
